Explain the relationship between Dottie and Kit. Who can you relate to more, why?
Dottie and Kit are sisters. (to point out the obvious) In the movie, Dottie seemed more responsible and in charge. She showed lots of poise, as in she was able to keep calm and under control in hard situations. She was one of the best players on the all-american girls baseball league. (<== link)
In the movie, Kit was more of the "don't give up even if you have to" or "has to be the best at everything or else she will have a nervous breakdown" type of person in comparison to her older sister. She didn't seem to want to give up, and eventually found herself in a professional baseball league.
If I were magically in a position to find which one of the sisters I can relate to more, I would have to say that I can relate more to Dottie. No, I am not a professional women's baseball player, and no I don't have a sister that wants to be better than me at what she does, but I do think that I can keep calm under harsh conditions. (some of my friends may say otherwise, but almost all of them don't know my personal life better than a leaf knows that it is eventually going to fall off a tree.)
Second Q...
What themes are presented in this movie? How do these themes relate to what was happening in the United States at this time(1940's ish)
I think that some themes that were presented in the movie (the one that i've been writing about the whole time) would most likely have to be the following: skill, and team spirit. I think the movie showed skill because to get into the championships for a professional league, you (they) need/needed some amount of skill. Without that, it would be a bunch of people swinging aimlessly at a ball that wouldn't be going very far, or very accurately. This relates to what was happening at the time because in world war two, soldiers needed skill that was taught to them to make it through and survive.I also think that team spirit is another good theme that was shown in the movie. I think this because the girls in the movie worked together to get to the finals and to make it through challenges like one of their husbands dying in the war, or kit getting put onto another team. This can relate to what was happening overseas because soldiers had to work together to keep up morale and keep moving forward.
Third Q! (i'm really tired of typing by now...)
identify three traits from john wooden's pyramid of success that were represented in this movies. Use examples from the film as evidence.
Three john wooden traits that I think were represented in the movie were friendship, enthusiasm, and confidence. I think friendship was shown in the beginning of the movie when Dottie showed that she was a good friend and sister by going to the new league so Kit could try at a future in baseball. Another trait that was shown in the movie was enthusiasm. I think this because in the movie, TONS of fans ( not the ones that blow air... budum tiss) were enthusiastic about the new baseball team. And the last theme that I think was shown in the movie is confidence. I think this because in the last game, Dottie comes over to her coach (played by tom hanks) and says "you should shave more often, you look like a piece of shit" as a joke. He then said "we're gonna win, we're gonna win..."
And that is the answers to the questions to the movie "a league of their own". (phew)
